although mary hasn't shown up yet....where is she?
Eh... I've stated my feelings about the Mary thing elsewhere, so forgive a cut and paste:
Canon Holmes and Watson could sort of have separate lives and still work together, etc. BBC Sherlock and John are MUCH more co-dependent, and Sherlock seems much more selfish than canon Holmes. So while canon Watson could have a wife, John... yeah, as soon as Sherlock comes back, John will be back at his side, and Mary’s gonna have to like it or lump it. Really, aside from delaying their true "reunion", I see no purpose to give John a wife...

That did make me sad. Not John being married because that's what I'm betting at the moment how the next series is going to start. We see like a brief montage of John moving on after Sherlock's 'death', he meets a girl and they're married within several months. And I'm honestly cool with that, I like Mary in the Ritchie movies and I really liked Sarah and was actually kind of bummed when John was with...whatever her name was, the "boring teacher", in ASIB.
It's the 'living away from each other' that gets to me though. Especially when they just get reunited with each other. On the one hand it could lead to delicious angst, on the other I really don't want a series arc of John having to choose between his wife and his best friend because - SEEN IT. :P

I try not to read anything from Moffat anymore.
But... yeah I really, really think the idea is, frankly, pointless and annoying, for the reasons explained above.
