I'm very lonely in college. To make myself feel better I pretend I'm Sherlock and that others are too boring and predictable to talk too.

And to repeat what others have been saying, if you really do want to make friends, acting aloof and like you're above it all is only going to make your loneliness worse. Sometimes it's as simple as looking around at the people in your class, noticing someone with a sticker on their laptop or a fandom related t-shirt and saying, "Oh, do you like [insert show] too? That's awesome!"
If your college has a gym, usually there will be weekly activities/sport groups that you can join and meet new people. If you have a Student Union or student government, they usually have a list of all the clubs on campus and ways to join. The hardest step is taking the courage to open up, but I've found that college is way more accepting than high school and it's almost always worth the risk.
