I got one as a joke gift once, back in my "must consume all ANIMES" phase in highschool, and it totally was useful to me because I tended to use writing pads more often than actual notebooks for class.

It also had other uses:

1) drink coaster
2) doubles as spy protection for the writing pads. No one will ever scribble on a page to find the imprints of what secrets you wrote down.
3) sticky tack knife
4) bookmark
5) mark of being too into fandom. fellow too into fandom folk will know you're one of them.

It was a stupid fan-made pokemon one, but it was the best thing ever. Someone stole it when they broke into my locker. Of all the things to steal :'(
