Yeah, as much as I love the BBC version, I do have issues with it (and not just because of Moffat), so...
And really, the more the merrier, imo.
Also, as someone mentioned, the Rathbone films often put Holmes and Watson in the present day (some of the ones in the forties had him up against Nazis, for example) so it's not as if updating Holmes is a new idea (something Moffat and Gatiss have pointed out).
