I would love it SO MUCH if it stuck to the original format of short, mostly unconnected adventures. Many of the adaptations like to give Holmes this really *epic* enemy, love interest, or adventure where *everything* is on the line but some of my favorite stories are much simpler. "These guys paid me to copy the encyclopedia because I have red hair but now they've fired me and I think it's weird" or "Some crazy guy with a beard follows me on my bicycle but only by this one house" simple. Which is to say not simple at all but perfect for a 22 episode TV season.

I think there is a lot of potential for characterization and humor and cleverness that needn't rely on the "big" stories and characters. Too much to hope for I know, but maybe that first season.

Yeah. One of my issues with Sherlock BBC is that Moriarty is involved in nearly everything. Either he's the man behind the man (or woman), or they have him there at the end... Seriously, at the end of "Hounds of Baslerville", I was like. "Oh FFS! Yeah, heaven forbid he not be in every goddamn episode..."

or adventure where *everything* is on the line

Yeah, that's annoying. Compare the canonical "Scandal in Bohemia", where there's the threat of one guy getting blackmailed, to "Scandal in Belgravia" where Irene actually DOES blackmail the government, and there's terrorists, and... and WTF, I don't even...

Of course, with Sherlock BBC, they're mostly taking 20-page stories and turning them into 90-minute episode, so a little expansion is understandable. But there are right and wrong ways to do that. "The Reichenbach Fall" is a good example of the right way to do it.

Ok, before I get torn a new one by the roaming hords of Sherlock fangirls I'll just say that I do love Sherlock a LOT. But I think there are other cool ways of doing it.

Seriously though, CSI: Baker Street. Law and Order and Deer Stalkers. I remain forever optomistic

Hee! Yeah, me too!

Though it would be CSI: London...
