Honestly, I find "Sheryl" (and "Shirley") too normal. "Sherlock" isn't a normal name for a guy, and if they made Holmes female, she shouldn't have a normal name, either.

So, keep Sherlock? Honestly, a female Sherlock would have to be just as unique, eccentric and detached as her male counterpart, Sherlock, would still fit her perfectly. And to me, it's the only name that fits.

John Watson can go to Johnette Watson and James Moriarty can go to Jaimie Moriarty and be fine. But Sherlock has to remain Sherlock. It's really the only name that works.

Keeping it might really be the best bet...

I usually see "John" feminized as "Jane". Up-thread I had Moriarty being named "Janet", Adler being "Ian", and Lestrade being "Greta" (the BBC version is named "Greg").

They made Moriarty into Molly H(ardy) in the Shirley Holmes series. Coincidence?

NGL, when I was really little and first heard the name "Sherlock Holmes" without any context, I thought he was female because 'Sherlock' just sounded kind of feminine to me. But then I also thought 'Julian' was a girl's name too. :P
