Except G1 Sideswipe and Armada Sideswipe are totally different characters. They just share a name.

I'm very well aware of that. I'm also aware that Bayvere Sideswipe and Shattered Glass Sideswipe are two completely different characters, and yet all four have a tragic past--which was the point of my comment. Hence the "several relevant canons".

Oh, and I included Sunstreaker in my comment because it's true for him as well, and he and Sideswipe tend to go hand-in-hand in fandom.
