I haven't seen the Jim Carrey one either, and I'm not really that eager too tbh. Muppets forever! ♥

So... You don't watch movies, just because they won't "top" your favorites?
What a weird way to decide what to see.

YAY 1990s MUPPET SECRET

Because seriously, why would anyone else feel the need to redo this story after it's been narrated by Gonzo and Rizzo? OP, you are indeed awesome. ^_^

Just as well, OP, the Jim Carrey version might stick closer to the letter of the story, but I thought it was lacking real heart. That and animated Scrooge-Jim is creepy as fuck! Even after his change in 'tude, I thought he was an inch away from knifing somebody, especially when he laughed. Run away, Cratchet, run away!

So? the Jim Carry one is pretty good too. It doesn't have to become your new favorite, or top the Muppets movie for you to enjoy it, surely.

Light the lamp, not the rat!!

Man, my family and I used to watch TMCC every year when it came on TV until we were all working different hours (plus my mum and I in healthcare which means working pretty much every other Christmas) and couldn't coordinate our schedules enough to do so.

I love that movie. <3

My siblings and I quote "Light the lamp! Not the rat!" among a plethora of other Muppets quotes at each other at random moments. People probably think we're nuts. ♥

Haha, same! ♥ Also, that Kermit icon always makes me so happy, it's so cute.

I love that line far too much to be healthy. XD

Muppet Family Christmas is my go-to holiday special, but Muppet Christmas Carol is a close second. Such love in these movies. <33

"The turkey's the turkey, you turkey!" "Bark! Bark!"

Jim Henson love forever! Seriously, Muppet Show Muppets, cast from original Sesame Street and Fraggles. What more can one want for Christmas? -_^

We still have Muppet Family Christmas (and that year's Sesame Street special, Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph and some inane 'Julie Andrews sing in the Swiss Alps' special) recorded onto a sadly deteriorating VHS, complete with 1980's commercials for somethings my much younger sister recognizes and a lot of things that don't exist anymore. Also plugs for used car dealerships/weather forecasts for Abilene, Texas involving some massively horrendous 1980's big Texas hair lol. Classic family Christmas traditions for the win! ♥

....Additionally: "I'll wash." "I'll dry." "I'll break."

I'll admit, I have no desire to watch the one on the left, because the animation looks an awkward combination of uncanny valley and downright repulsive. But not watching an adaptation just because there's another adaptation you love seems strange to me. I mean, I love Muppet Treasure Island and Treasure Planet. They're both based on the source material but are very different films, and I adore them both - loving one doesn't mean I have to forsake the other, watching one didn't erase the other from my mind or mean I was betraying it.

"Because when you're a professionallllll pirate, you don't have to wear a suit!"

Dude. How can one *not* love Muppet Treasure Island? It's TIM CURRY and MUPPETS. Even now I am resisting the urge to sing, well, pretty much every song from that movie. Sadly I missed Treasure Planet the first time around and can now only find clips of it online. :(

Here (http://www.solarmovie.eu/movie/playlink/id/507993/)

Because no one should miss out on the greatness of TP

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck yeah, The Muppets. That said I'm sure it couldn't hurt to see the other movie. I didn't hear any reviews about it being terrible, but I didn't see it myself.

I feel the same way regarding the Disney Scrooge McDuck one, not to mention being kind of tired from all the dozens of other adaptations of it I've seen growing up.

[identity profile] falconwhitaker.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I don't think it's a case of one movie "topping" the other. They may have the same key story, but they take it in very different directions. The Muppets – being the Muppets – play up the comedy for most of the story (the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come being the very obvious exception – even Rizzo and Gonzo are scared of that bastard), whereas the Jim Carrey version focuses more on the horror aspects of the story (it is a ghost story, after all). I adore the Muppet version for what it is: an epic movie where a blue furry whatever and a talking rat narrate a classic Christmas story while Michael Caine stomps around being belligerent. But I really do enjoy the Jim Carrey version as well. Yes, the animation is really fucking uncanny valley, but to be honest, I think it helps enhance the creepy and dark atmosphere that the film is trying to achieve, and I love it for being one of the very few adaptations to actually keep in the section about Ignorance and Want, which is one of my favourites.

So in conclusion, the Muppet Christmas Carol and the Jim Carrey Christmas Carol are two very, very different movies, and I think it would be quite possible for you to see and enjoy the Jim Carrey version while still adoring the Muppet version over all others. I can!

Also, this may start a flame war, but PUT BELLE'S SONG BACK INTO THE DVD VERSIONS, YOU TIGHT-FISTED BASTARDS. "THE LOVE IS GONE" IS MY FAVOURITE WEEPY MUSICAL NUMBER OF ALL TIME. >.>
