Can I get some context here? I mean, I know it will make me rage, but I'm curious now.

[identity profile] krillia.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
*wanders in randomly*

Basically, Scott Lobdell is a hack who enjoys taunting fans with the idea that they'll never get back the Titans they know and love?

His new Superboy is a confusing, senseless experiment without any sort of moral compass (and whose cells each have an individual mind) who is hunting the new Teen Titans because they're "getting in the way", or they want to do experiments on them or something. His new Teen Titans is a bunch of jerks and angry teenagers instead of the family they were.

So, yeah. Taunting. He fucked them all up and then throws that in the faces of the fans. I'm sure he thought he was being clever, but his books are much, much too horrible for him to get to do something like that.

[identity profile] babycnessa.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
... Yup, I'm raging alright! The fuck? What kind of jackass destroys a team and then says things like that? Sometimes I think that DC hates its longtime readers.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
...Does DC want to fail?

And seriously, that darker and edgier crapsack world phase has been done to freakin' death. It wasn't new ten years ago, for heavens sake, just start writing good stories without intentionally fucking shit up.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Why the TITANS???

That's honestly my only question. Why. The. Titans?

No seriously, something else I could have stomached, the JLA I could have stomached, a different teen hero group I could have stomached. I could have understood some alternate take on how a national superhero group comes together and works together. I'd think it was stupid, but I would have understood. But the TITANS?? The Titans, who revived DC in the '70s and '80s? The Titans, who were so completely different from everything else? The Titans, the one team whose origins and history and continuity and familial-ness is so, so, so, so utterly integral to not only their appeal and uniqueness but their entire identity? WHY. Just WHY.

[identity profile] krillia.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't disagree with you on any of this (*points at icon* "For the first time since my father died, I stopped thinking like Batman and started thinking like a Titan"). Although the name had already been a bit screwed up pre-reboot by the whole "Villains for Hire" business and the murder of Ryan Choi. But at least there was a REASON then, with Deathstroke specifically naming his team in order to try to ruin the world's view of the Titans.

It was a shaky, weird reason, but it was a reason other than "We felt like it, and we think people will be able to identify better with the characters this way. So STFU."

*sighs* I miss Kon. I didn't think that would be the case. I never disliked the character, but I was never really attached to him either. But I miss the dorky, somewhat identity-confused pseudo clone whose last words were "isn't it cool? [that I saved the universe]" :(

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG why did you have to remind me of Kon's "last" words? Ug, so sad...

[identity profile] krillia.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
They were. His "last words" before the DCnU stole him away were worse for me, though: "But now I know I'll never be normal. I was born in a test tube in a lab. I wear a costume and fight bad guys. And my friends aren't normal either. But maybe that just means I'm not so different after all. I'm Superboy, and this is Smallville... and there's nowhere I'd rather be."

I cried. I probably would have misted up even if the reboot hadn't been coming, but I was genuinely shedding tears since Lobdell had already spilled the beans about what he was intending on doing to the character.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my God, why!?! What's wrong with these people. OMG the person who decided on that's a sadist.

[identity profile] krillia.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I was actually appreciative of most of the good ones. I mean, these writers were, in a way, writing the deaths of these characters and most of them knew it and gave their characters decent last hurrahs (which can't have been fun for them, since it's come out that the DCnU was basically a secret, so a lot of the writers had done considerable work on future arcs). A lot of them went with promises and others were just funny in a bittersweet way (Zatanna sending her alarm clock to Hell so she could continue a dream, for instance: "mralA kcolc og ot lleh.")

The promises, though. So many promises:

Steph!Batgirl's final words were "It's only the end if you want it to be."

Jay Garrick ended JSA with "We do what we always do. We go on. We rebuild. We endure."

Power Girl had "Okay, boys. Let's go over this point-by-point and you tell me just exactly what the hell this was all about. And don't leave anything out. After all, we've got all the time in the world."

Tim, in Teen Titans: "Old. New. It doesn't matter. As long as there are Titans, we will have a tower. Titans together. Titans forever.".

At the time, though, the worst was Dick Grayson to Donna Troy at the end of JLA, since by then we already knew Donna wasn't going to be part of the reboot: "Try as you might, I can guarantee not everyone is going to forget you."

(The full list of "last words" is here (http://siskoid.blogspot.com/2011/08/famous-last-words.html) Be forewarned, though, it's a painful read.)

Okay, I was already teary eyed from reading sad fanfic, but that just pushed me over the edge into blatant can't-even-pretend-I'm-not crying.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-01-31 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
IA, it's the way it was done that was the worst. Having a team develop in a dark direction and get off track is fine if it's written well with, you know, believable continuity and internal logic, because they can always come back to their roots in the future. But completely wiping it out and replacing it with a different idea...yeah, just nasty and pointless.
