I don't hate Barney, but other than that, I agree. I will be so sad if (prob when) they break them up. I think he is perfect and awesome and fits in with the group wonderfully! I love Robin as a wingman for Barney, not as a boyfriend.

So yeah, you're not alone.

I love Kevin (REALLY, REALLY LOVE HIM. As in, omg I wish he could stay with the gang forever and be Uncle Kevin for Ted's kids and it kills me to know he's gonna have to leave) but I don't like him with Robin at all. Ignoring the fact that Robin obviously doesn't love him and has no reason to be interested in other than the fact that he's interested in her and not a jerk, the two of them have zero chemistry and their personalities are completely unsuited to each other. Yes he's a wonderful guy, but that doesn't mean he's a wonderful partner for Robin. And I think she's just using him to distract her from Barney and the general recent shittiness of her life.

Also, you hate Barney *now*? No offense, but that's...odd. He's grown so much in late season 6/early season 7....and his womanizing facade seems all the more sad and ridiculous now that we've gotten to know what kind of a guy he's capable of being if he so desires.

At the beginning, when Barney was just a joke character, I could overlook his misogyny. But then I felt I was supposed to sympathise with him (even though his attitude towards any woman who wasn't Robin or Lily remained horrible), which made me angry with the writers - and with the character.

Huh. Well I thought the other way around -- in season 4 and 6 (I really despised him during season 5) I enjoyed how he was portrayed as a royally fucked-up person instead of 'jerk who the other four should totally boot out of their group but don't'. Maybe I'm just biased because I have personal experience with ridiculously assholish people who are still likable and have good traits (read: all my dad's brothers and sisters and their spouses). I do totally see where you're coming from though.

And really, I kinda hate some of his fans, the ones who are always bitching about how the other characters dare to judge their precious little guy. Like seriously? WAT. I really like Barney, but he's really, really, really lucky to have managed to land some friends who are forgiving enough to let him come crawling back to them every time he acts like a huge tool. If he hadn't met up with Ted and Marshall and Lily in 2002, I'm pretty sure he'd probably have fallen in with a group of Insane Duane-ish date-raping sleazeballs and wound up in jail.

MTE about Kevin, I could get behind Robin and Kevin if I maybe felt ANY chemistry at all but they really have absolutely none. He's a good character but a bad match for Robin.

I agree. I mean I don't like him as much as you do but yeah. But this whole storyline is just weird. Robin obviously doesn't love him. Kevin has been able to tell that the gang is dysfunctional and yet he fails to see that Robin doesn't love him? Or he does and just keeps it up because he loves Robin or something.

I so agree about them having nothing in common. When Robin was suddenly interested in him it came out of nowhere for me. Why. I think her and Barney are much more similar even if they're not that well adjusted. I really don't see why Robin keeps insisting on dating Kevin or whatever it is they're doing.

I ship Barney/Robin a heck of a lot, but honestly, I reaalllly like Kevin and Kevin/Barney is growing on me. Kevin is more accepted by the brOTP fandom than Nora and Barney/Nora is, but honestly, I was okay with Nora and that ship, too. I don't like Kevin/Robin or Barney/Nora as much as Barney/Robin, but if it weren't for B/N I'd probably ship them both. Kevin's just so sweet and cute and funny and not messed up- and I loved messed-up characters, but Kevin's a good contrast to the rest of them.

And I love Barney, but if you hate him, that's completely understandable. Sometimes I want to punch him in the face, and people who honestly think he's awesome and a good person to look up to make me roll my eyes. Barney's not meant to be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean I can't see why his behavior would be off-putting to you, and even if you're just not crazy about him and dislike B/R and prefer Kevin, that's cool.

How funny, Barney's starting to annoy the crap out of me as well.

I totally get the Barney hate, now. He was my favorite in the first few seasons because he was more in the background, and we were supposed to laugh at him and pity him. I think the writers did a decent job of developing him as more of a romantic lead and making him sympathetic in mid-S3 to S4, but they lost that thread after S5, and I just find him tiresome.

I would root for Kevin/Robin if they hadn't gone from 'doctor/patient' to dating so quickly. I totally understand why you prefer it over R/B, though! I wish the series would end with Robin/career and Barney/suits, and Kevin would get a happy ending, too.

IA re: Barney. He's a prime example of too much of a good thing. Also, another reason why CBS is a fucking stupid network.

But one of the main reasons I still feel okay shipping Barney/Robin is because FutureTed told us that Robin had a fabulously successful career (which included bullfighting!) and no kids. So no matter what kind of relationship the show throws at us, I can always headcanon their relationship between the show's end and the year 2030 as being as awesome and unconventional as I want it to be, without contradicting anything :)
