It's not just you. It kinda bothers me when people say that Kanji was definitely gay and/or Naoto was definitely trans, or even if they AREN'T. If you saw it that way? I respect that. But they didn't really confirm or deny anything in the games. And I think I read there was an interview that the creator or someone involved in the games said it was up to the players to decide or something? Something like that I dunno.

Agreed. If that their interpretation then that's awesome, but once people start fighting about it or demanding that it's canon it starts getting a little silly.

This. It's even worse when you get the people who are like 'IF YOU DON'T THINK NAOTO IS 100% TRANS AND HER SOCIAL LINK IS 120% TRANSPHOBIC YOU ARE THE MOST HORRIBLE TRANSPHOBIC PERSON ON THE PLANET', when Naoto being trans is just, like, your opinion, man. Same with Kanji too.

I don't really consider myself "in" the fandom, but I read the RP discussion threads, and I'm honestly shocked that there are people here who are even accepting that Kanji's orientation is up to interpretation. I've been on the receiving end of those attacks, because I feel he's more a confused teenager who doesn't know who/what he's attracted to, rather than being one way or the other.

This is in the direction of where I feel about Kanji- especially taking into consideration the social context of where this game was actually made, ie Japan. Not trying to say I'm an expert on the matter or anything, but simply from my experience with talking to Japanese people about the matter, they tend to have more of a 'you are who you are' attitude towards sexuality, and are reluctant to label/be labelled as straight/bisexual/gay etc, which I feel gels better with how Kanji is portrayed. I'm far less inclined to believe that Kanji is 100% straight, but I do think it's kind of horrible how people get attacked and called homophobic over thinking Kanji is /confused/, of all things. Then again, this fandom tends to jump that card quite a bit- I remember reading some people getting angry at Atlus and calling them homophobic/transphobic a couple of days after they started showing P4A trailers because there wasn't any Kanji or Naoto in them. (I don't think there was any Rise, either, but I could be mistaken.)
