Word. And considering this is a town where someone can literally pin an dead educator to a tree and nobody bats and eyelashes, why not?

The girl's family/friends have been rapidly dying/killed off the last few years- I don't blame her for digging trenches and circling the wagons around her chosen few myself at all. Makes the character more human IMO.

I haven't seen the TV series but in the book series, the whole point with Elena was that she was a shallow, selfish teen who learned to put others before herself. She was a Queen Bee.

Having seen the tv series and not read the books, I have to say the script writers altered that version of Elena a tad. Interesting to know, though.

OP, honestly I think that could be said of any of the characters, even the "good" ones (like Alaric, Bonnie, Caroline, Caroline's mom, etc.) and I think it's the biggest flaw of the show, or at *least* the thing that makes it difficult for me to root for the Salvitore bros and their circle of enablers. I mean, I love the show, it's a whip-lash fast thrill-ride of a supernatural soap, and I LOVE every second of Damon snarking and eye-thinging his way around town, but every time Elana begs someone not to kill him, I kind of have to wonder WHY WHY WHY does that person listen, when it's probably gonna mean more innocent people dying...

That was actually when I checked out of the show. I heard it was good so I started watching it, but I dropped it after Elena begged for Damon's life. It was just too frustrating.

And Damon was an enjoyable character, for me!
