Kinda doesn't make sense how you can not like these characters if you claim to like the show - I mean Usagi herself shows up in all 200 episodes and the Senshi and Mamoru are really not far off.

idk, I hated like all the characters in Torchwood (except possibly Tosh) but I still enjoyed the first two seasons of it. I can't really explain why. I get you, OP

Torchwood's a much different animal though. Sailor Moon's anime series is incredibly formulaic. You can go ten episodes at a stretch where literally nothing of import happens, whereas Torchwood's much more condensed. You don't have to like the characters as much because there's a plot arc to follow and cool things are always happening. I feel like to get into the SM anime, you kind of have to invest in the characters or else go nuts waiting for something to happen.

I've watched series before where I didn't like any of the characters (not BSSM, mind, I love the senshi) but the storytelling and atmosphere were good enough for me to stick around. I get it.
