The OP sees the two characters and situations as similar enough that s/he's confused as to why one character is loved and one is reviled. I'm just pointing out that even if they are the same, the fandoms have two very different mindsets.

Yeah the only way this secret makes sense is if you assume that Sherlock and Death Note fandoms consist of wholly or mostly the same people. Which... idk there seems to be some overlap going by this thread but they're still completely separate fandoms.
