nope, of course not. I don't think the value of her job or jobs like hers are comparable to what Molly does, however.

Fair enough. (-:

Actually, I disagree with your comment and find it a bit offensive. What's the point of comparing jobs, and on what basis do you compare them? Everyone does what they are good at, having different talents doesn't make people more or less important. Plus, this is fandom secrets, a place which exists because of people with jobs like her (so to say) so it's a strange place to be looking down upon them.

You're an idiot if you think some jobs are in themselves not of more value than other jobs. It's people like you who think cancer researchers, who are trying to cure cancer, deserve less than $100,000/yr and that athletes deserve millions of dollars and they do nothing but play sports. They only lives athletes make better are their lives, they're not trying to cure cancer.

da

No, it doesn't determine the importance of people relative to one another, but I'd still argue not all jobs are equally important. A brilliant neurosurgeon and a brilliant telemarketer: who does more for the world, on the basis of careers alone? In a post-apocalyptic world, an entertainer is nice for keeping morale up, but the doctor or the engineer might still be considered more "important."

I'd also argue that not all talents are equally worthwhile, though of course it depends on what a person does with what they have. A talent for solving complex mathematical equations is not quite the same as some with a talent for, I dunno, recognizing by sound different models of vacuum cleaners.

Well it depends on how much you value psychology. A doctor might save your life, but an entertainer will make you want to maintain it. Doctors can't do much with people who are too depressed to want to live. It's like all those studies about how the mideset of cancer patients is related to their survival rate.

Entertainers have sometimes done way for me than psychiatry.

I'm not going to say singers are more important than cancer researchers because that would be ridiculous but anyone who thinks entertainers have little value has ignored about half of the secrets here.

Might as well say it, I'm the OP of #15...

I'm glad you found something that makes you happy! I don't really think most people here think it has little value, just that they care more about preserving life in the physical sense. To me personally, it's just as important; I'm never as happy as when I'm listening to music.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, the world would be such a shitty place without music, stories, theatre, and all of that. I hate seeing art undervalued or dismissed as a mere pastime when it so often changes people's lives, teaches them new things, and challenges their worldviews.

Everything was true, and nothing was valid?

Get outta here with that po-mo shit.

Just,

get,

out.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I totally disagree. I think artists are really fucking important. More so than morgue attendants, imo.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-11 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. I think garbage collectors (hope it's the right term?) are more important than artists.
