(Anonymous) 2012-02-11 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)The worst part about this is I can remember a time when it wasn't the case. Before I really got into fandom(and more importantly, before I had internet in the home), I still did fanart here and there but I was predominantly doing my own things. I had ideas. I could come up with one fantastical piece after another and it was so easy.
It feels like, in some way, that fandom took creativity away from me. It's so hard to come up with a design or a piece on my own, yet I could do the exact same thing for a fandom related thing in seconds.
At least I'm getting it back in small spurts. Working on my webcomic (a personal, original product) is getting me back into that place where I can feel creative all the time. It's not a very big feeling right now and I know it's going to take so much longer but I feel eventually I'll get to that place again where making something original doesn't feel like a chore.

Yeah, this is exactly how I feel at times.
It's really tough, and I really am trying to work on my own creative writing. But yeah, I know how you feel.
