I don't write with fans in mind, no. I agree, as it's been stated in posts below mine, that feedback is nice. Having fans of my work is a lovely thing and I'm always glad to know someone is enjoying what my brain creates. But the idea that I write for someone other than myself is laughable. Why would I? I don't write a story with people in mind, thinking 'oh this scene will make them really happy!' I write for the words, for the love of the character, for my sanity, for escapism.

Same here. I only ever post my stories (and some of them are huge) after I've finished them entirely, so I never feel a sense of needing either a. advice on where to take the story/editing or b. needing to update so I don't leave anyone hanging.

Sometimes I may think 'how will this be received' particularly if it involves an OC, but mostly I write as ^^ stated because I have too or else my brain won't shut the frak up. Not that it isn't rewarding having people comment and say they enjoyed it but I'd say a large percentage of my work goes unread by anyone that isn't my good fandom friend.

There's a difference between writing and sharing a story in a public archive...

...Yes there is...okay then to clarify, I write for myself, but I post because there may be others who might enjoy reading it. However, I don't go out of my way to get people to read it...

Then there's absolutely no reason to post them online. Keeping them in private journals would accomplish the very same thing.
