IA. They don't owe us anything, but some things they SHOULD do simply because it's right (like give a warning that they're deleting their journals).

Why is it right though? Clearly, since they didn't, it wasn't right for them.

Anything could have happened, they could have been deployed, or lost a close friend, or any number of reason. There's no reason they should go into it...to ask for anything is nosy.

You do realize that you, basically, canceling out the 'They don't owe us' with 'They should/are reguired to tell us because we invested SO much into them, gosh!'

I'm sorry if that comes off mean - but that really is how it's coming across to me. And honestly? No, they *don't* owe you an explanation, and while it's *nice* when they do give an explanation or warning, it's not right *or* wrong when they don't. *YOU* choose how much time and energy you invest in their fanworks - not them. It's quite possible they could, and would, continue to make fan works even if they never had any fans.

So in all honesty? While what you 'invest' in them is nice, and - in the case of constructive crit. - helpful, at the end of the day it's not as important on the author's/artist's end as you seem to think it is.

Also, even in the case of friends they don't *have* to leave you an explanation. Is it nice? Yes, very much so - particularly if they want to maintain the friendship. But it's not something they have to do. There are legitimate reasons they wouldn't do that, which, while sucky for the person being left, doesn't mean it's 'wrong' for them to do so.

Did you see that comment above where someone said she deleted her LJ because her sister died? So you're saying that, if this was one of the authors you liked, her obligation to you as a fan is more important than her taking the time to grieve for her dead sister. That's what you're saying. You're a piece of shit.
