It's only recently I've noticed how often a picture will be circulating my dash and it's the same picture but will be several different posts (I mean they started with multiple people creating a new post, not just different people reblogging). And one of them will be the original artist of the pic, who has a Tumblr and has had one for a while, but people ignore that Tumblr to post stuff from their DeviantArt or LJ or whatever, even if they link to their Tumblr post beneath the DeviantArt or LJ pic, because those other people want all the notes. It's weird that that's acceptable behaviour there. Also, people create posts reccing fanfic on AO3 or LJ, and the rec posts gets lots of notes but nobody leaves any comments or kudos for the author who actually wrote the fic. It's like "congratulations, here's feedback for mentioning that you like a fic, yay, but leaving feedback for the author who actually wrote it? That's pointless."

I do actually like Tumblr, especially because I see a lot of interesting issues being discussed on my dash, usually with some really helpful links, which makes a nice change from the "oh my God, you noticed that [tv series] has potentially racist/misogynist/other -ist issues, you must be one of those dirty SJ warriors, you just die already" atmosphere that seems to be becoming the norm here. But I'm not so keen on the way it's so common to use other people's work to create more attention for yourself with no nod to the creator.

I like rec posts because they're excellent sources for fic when you're just getting into a fandom. I usually thank the reccer and give feedback on the fic itself. I've never noticed rec posts getting tons of replies unless it's a BNF reccing stuff or something.
