The number of ship I'll read about is < 5 because there are only so few characters I'm interested enough to read about outside of canon.
So I really don't think people should make assumptions on whether someone is homophobe or heterophobe based on what they do in fandom.
Time is short, and in addition to everything else that's been said, not everyone strives to be popular by being extremely productive about every existing pairing, or writing fics on request...
Just because you write fic doesn't mean you *have* to write some for friends / fandom fellows.
