Wow your attitude is terrible. You have no right to try and dictate how someone expresses themselves creatively. Even if they're not that good, that's entirely forgivable because skills like in artwork do NOT flourish overnight. It takes time and practice.

This.

'Sticking to what you're best at' and only that sounds so dreadfully boring. And stagnant. And counter-productive to creativity.

I don't ever really see the point of needless gushing. If their vid and graphic works aren't as good, just don't say anything, or give helpful critique. No one is good from the beginning. And sure, it may remain mediocre. But that's not going to stop people who are good at it from producing their own works. No one is holding a gun to your head. You don't have to click on it, you don't have to comment. You can just ignore it.

OMG, someone is expressing themself in ways you don't like! How very dare they?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
But it looks like you are so aware of your awesomewriting abilities that you assume those talents will transfer to any other creative fandom pursuits.

Many professional celebrities have the same problem. It doesn't hurt to explore, but before promoting new found talents, people should ask their close friends for brutally honest feedback before embarrassing themselves.

Maybe they don't like bugging "graphically-inclined" people to do stuff for them? I love it when people offer but I really hate to ask.

You and me both.

[identity profile] crownedapple.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Stop trying new things! It disrupts my own life, somehow!

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Rude, rude RUDE! You know the best way to become great at something? It's called practice, maybe you're "amazing" at everything, but not everyone else is. We do it the hard way, by learning, deducing and by having fun doing something we enjoy.

I say if the person has fun doing all kind of creative stuff for fandom, then that's fantastic.

[identity profile] saiika-von-maou.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Why jump to the negative conclusion? Is it not possible that they just want to try a bunch of different things? Maybe they're not as good at these other things as they are at writing, but does that automatically mean they're being arrogant? Besides, you said it yourself: The other things this person does aren't terrible. So why fuss?

Don't try to assign parts. Creativity doesn't work that way.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Because practicing what your not good at isn't a way to improve yourself, right? And people should only cater to other people's whims, and thus only produce what other people want, not what they themselves would like to produce. Especially since they're doing it for free.

I totally think this secret is about Thanfiction/VB
