I liked all the Matrix movies. First is best though; the action sequences and everything felt better balanced during the movie. The other 2 had some extremely long action sequences that felt interminable and bored the hell out of movie before they were over. I actually liked the rave scene in the movie. I thought it looked fun although I know most everybody hates this scene.

IA. I admit I liked the sequels much, much more after reading some meta about what it was all supposed to mean. It seems like the first movie was so well received since it worked on several levels - as an action film with a reasonably straightforward plot as well as a platform for musing on the nature of reality, spirituality, philosophy, and human nature. The sequels pushed the "symbolic" interpretations a little too far IMO and alienated people who were there expecting a more coherent story. The rave scene does get a lot of hate, but it is there for a reason (and not just to show tits): it's to illustrate what it means to embrace your humanity.

Plus, not having a typical Hollywood ending probably disappointed viewers.
