Except they aren't gaining positive meanings. It's like the Sassy Gay Friend and his "you're a stupid bitch". It's said humorously, and we're supposed to laugh, but the punchline is that the woman he's talking to is being told off with gendered language.

The word still maintains its negative connotations. By using it this way all you're doing is telling people who use it oppressively that it's okay to use it so long as they use it in a funny way.

Like I said, I am fully aware of this, and I think you're absolutely right. I don't personally use any reclaimed words, for that reason.

However, I also don't personally believe that the situation is as black and white as it is often presented within SJ circles, which tend to reason in pretty absolutist ways which hardly ever seem to apply to real life as I experience it. I play it safe and steer away from using them, because I don't want to give anyone more ammunition than they already have. That doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

No, I agree that the SJW take it too far. For example, there is no longer such a stigma attached to somebody whose parents weren't married in a church before they were born, and so "bastard" isn't the horrible accusation it used to be.

I have a few disabled related reclaimed words that I use for myself, and my friends use around me. And their reclamation I realized later on, empowered me to not get as upset when any (even un-reclaimed words) were used against me, and be able to respond in a much more constructive, non-day ruining way.

There are some though that I will /never/ reclaim, and so I am entirely respectful of what other peoples limits are, and only use certain words around people I know they are safe with). Because I know how I feel with some words (For ex: cripple, will make my blood boil still, that, not even jokingly, ever, no. Just, no.).
