Perhaps this is a weird opinion/viewpoint, but I don't believe that fandoms ever really die. Not only is all the old stuff still up, people like you still remember and like the source material, yes? Even if new stuff isn't getting posted, the fandom lives on in the minds of the fans.

But, uh, your definition of "fandom" and "die" may vary wildly from mine, so I don't know if that makes you feel any better. >__>;

The old stuff might still be up (although as time advances pages and archives vanish, dreading when ff.net vanishes from the web), but there are dino skeletons up and on display in any natural history museum in the land. Doesn't make them any less dead though.

Fandom dies when the new stuff slows to a trickle of bad-fics, porn-fics, and script-fics, all of which have no redeeming value whatsoever. Or even stops producing new stuff whatsoever. SGA is on that downward slide right now.

Bad-fics, porn and script-fics... Not sure what script-fics are but if that is all you see then I guess all my stories must be badfic. Explains the lack of comments.

Could be true. Do you have a beta or someone who will be completely honest in helping you make the fic all it can be? Some writers have excellent ideas, but are rusty on the writing and need a little help. And hey, if you are writing badfic, there's nowhere to go but up, right?

lol I did the same a few years ago. I still write for my own entertainment, but I don't post anything. It's actually really freeing. I don't have to make sure things are perfect or even finish stories, I just write whatever scenes or stories are amusing me for that time and then move on.
