I don't know guys - the fic is actually pretty good at giving him a reason for his Slytherin ways. (I was so confused just now that the computer thought I spelled slytherin wrong...before I realised it's not actually a word. Uh.)
Anyways - If you look at the ways that Sherlock uses people, as well as his upbringing, it's quite feasible. It's somewhat canon that Sherlock is a bit posh. I mean, Mycroft has connections, most actors who play him have a bit of an upperclass accent ect. Old family = old money. Which sounds like Purebloods.
Granted, his intellect should award him entrance to Ravenclaw - but his intellect is in curious and obscure things. If he were to be solving mysteries he'd need to have intimate knowledge of the dark arts. Common sense things might just pass him by.

I'm afraid I really disagree with the points you've brought up. Just because a family is old money and Pureblood doesn't mean they will automatically be in Slytherin. The Weasley family may not be rich, but they're all Purebloods and they're in Gryffindor. Blood status does not automatically determine your house.

Also, why would an interest in curious and obscure things eliminate Ravenclaw as a possibility? Ravenclaws are about all knowledge, and that could also include the Dark Arts. The idea that one must be in Slytherin to have an interest in the Dark Arts just feels all wrong to me. It seems to be suggesting that you can't be interested in bad things unless you're in the "bad" house, which doesn't work in my eyes.

Plus, allow me to offer Luna Lovegood as a rebuttal. She is interested in curious and obscure knowledge and common sense things pass her by. She is in Ravenclaw.

I will admit that I haven't read the fic, but I just don't see Sherlock as a Slytherin. He doesn't have that style, I don't think. But hey, that's just me.

No fair enough, and you raise valid points.
However, there must be something said for tradition. While not unusual, if a family has a house they're sorted in to frequently it becomes part of their familial identity.
Percy could have been a fantastic Ravenclaw, but all the Weasleys were Gryffindors. Just as The Malfoys seem to be predominantly Slytherin. There are exceptions, such as Sirius - but you tend to go where your family does.

In terms of the fic itself, (which incidentally, give it a go - it's quite lovely) I think the set up for Sherlock to be in Slytherin was mostly to set a contrast between Sherlock and Jim, as well as to give Sherlock a sense of otherness from his fellow housemates. He doesn't get on with them - well, he doesn't get on with a lot of people, really.
It also serves to create a difference between Slytherin Sherlock and Ravenclaw Adler.

See, it's the "not getting on with people" thing that really quashes Sherlock-the-Slytherin for me because Slytherins are social climbers and Sherlock just... isn't. Also, I'd like to point out Luna again: she has a great sense of otherness from her fellow housemates.

However, no point in getting into an argument over which fictional school house particular fictional characters would go in ^^ I prefer the idea of Ravenclaw Sherlock myself, but that's just me. We shall agree to disagree and have fun! :D

Ahah oh absolutely.

Personally I prefer imagining what it'd be like if there were such a fictional school in my non fictional country. It'd be awesome.

Here's the thing about Hogwarts houses: not all traits of the House will be present on each member. I'm unequivocally a Slytherin (even spotty-at-best Pottermore stuck me there), but in no way would I or those who know me ever describe me as "a social climber" nor do I really get along with people. Just because Sherlock isn't doesn't totally eliminate the possibility that he'd be a Slytherin too. I feel like you missed your whole point (your own point) about Luna in saying that.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by "I feel like you missed your whole point (your own point) about Luna in saying that".

But I would like to add that I have now decided there's no point in trying to push people into agreeing with me because A) it's not that big a deal, it's just pretendy fun-times, and B) the exact definition of the different houses is a rather subjective thing anyway, and just because Sherlock doesn't fit into my interpretation of Slytherin doesn't mean he won't fit into yours. And that's fine too. :)
