(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)This is why I hate Utena and wish I had never, ever watched it. For me, it made me feel much, much worse. Abusers are crafty manipulators, they make it so you cannot help yourself just like that.
Anthy saving herself felt exactly like a terrible story about a person in a wheelchair who suddenly grows as a person and can magically walk again.
The abuse? The victim's fault, she just wasn't strong enough. If only she grew more.
The later is a common attitude, by the way. And that's what this story is telling me.
