Oh, fuck you. America always remakes the shows and makes them shit. This one strips the Annie character of any sense of humanity and tenderness and there was an excellent post about the inherent misogyny in the US vampire scene (presenting it as a blow job) versus the British one where they were on equal footing.

Too, you dicks always complain about British shows having ugly actors (see QAF) compared to the US version. We have an actor in Aidan Turner who gets flak from fans of the US series for being ~too handsome.

In short, fuck off and be glad that we gave you a great programme to rip off.

I remember reading that thing where they compared the US vampire scene as a blowjob and it kind of put me off wanting to watch the US version. And I'm American myself. I tend to prefer British shows, though, because the actors aren't as unrealistically pretty and I start to get sick of all the male gaze American tv shows have (not that British shows don't have it, but they're bit more equal-opportunity).

Do you have a link to what you're talking about? I don't want to have to Google "vampire blowjob".

Heh, that's understandable. Here it is: http://beinghuman-fans.livejournal.com/303778.html

Annie is a one dimensional mother figure/love interest that's only there to move the plot along for the male characters. Three seasons and going on a third and we virtually know nothing about her or her past outside of Owen.

I don't agree. She may seem simple, but Annie was more than a "motherly" persona.

As far as we know, Annie just led a normal life before she was killed. She was happy, bubbly, enormously caring and helpful as a child and as young woman. She also seemed excessively naive, which was probably why she was blind to Owen's indiscrecions. I think it's implied that a lot of the qualities she had in life transferred over when she became a ghost and that is perhaps the reason she still had a very idealized view of Owen, forgetting (perhaps due to the trauma, idk) it was him who killed her. Even after she found out it was him, her attempts to become what you would think a vengeful ghost would be was laughable at first because it was exactly the opposite of Annie was. (A+ on Annie's characterization continuity anyway.)

Can't really get into the the love interest part too much since I'm really sleepy atm buuut.... I believe both of them had some part in it though, though it was Lia who took advantage of their vulnerability at the time when she manipulated them into thinking that being in a relationship with each other was a good idea. With Mitchell's massive guilt and Annie's abandonment issues, it was bound to end up as bad as it did end of S3.

Well, clearly you haven't watched the US version then, because Sally is AMAZING, and does not in any way lack humanity or tenderness, so I have no idea what you're on about.

And OMG vampires drinking blood being compared to sex? THIS IS COMPLETELY NEW INFORMATION!!

Get over yourself.
