YES! I don't get why they changed it. They aired the pilot along with a bunch other pilots and had people vote to see which one would they like to be turned into a regular show. Being Human won. So, what do they do? They gut the show that everyone voted on and switched all but one actor. What were they thinking?

I'd thought that maybe the actors had been unable to commit to a full series - found other work maybe? - but then why would they audition for the pilot at all? I hate the thought that they changed them deliberately. Pilot!Mitchell was so creepy, just like a vampire should be, and Pilot!Annie had this charming gracelessness to her that I really liked. Their characters in the main series were gentler and softer and prettier and duller. So disappointing.

I adored Pilot!Mitchell. Especially how he was this icy, too calm to be real to George's manic, turn this up to eleven hyper-drive. And, yet, it worked between the two of them. Again, I don't understand how they went from that to new and improved Footballer!Mitchell. Why initially make Mitchell into a living Edward Gorey drawing to someone who looks like they would be in park scarfing down pizza when they weren't kicking the ball around? It makes no sense to me.

And I love Pilot!Annie. She had serious spunk and not an ounce of motherliness that would become Series!Annie trademark.

I wonder how different the show would have been if they kept with the original concept.

I believe Andrea Riseborough (Annie in the Pilot) was tapped to do other series/projects. Although I would have liked to have seen her be Annie, the move not to stay seems to be paid off for her career, so I'm happy for her!

I don't know much about what happened Pilot!Mitchell's actor, but I personally did not like him and was glad they recast with someone else. He looked and sounded too much like the stereotypical, tired Goth vampire persona that we've all seen before. Aidan Turner was able to cover both the tortured and human side of a vampire who was doing his damnedest to society again. I liked this fresher take on what it means to be a vampire, tbh.
