With AKB48, try watching their music videos, most which are all up on their official YT channel, some AKBingo clips/episodes, and a few stages, maybe starting with one for each team. All of the stages are on YT by song, so if you just search up the name of the stage you'll find it. Stage48 is a really popular and well-organized AKB48 forum, and they have really great FAQ and question threads in the General AKB48 Discussion section. They also have a large wiki, which helped me with learning every girl's name okay I still only know one kenkyusei but they don't count xD. Another thing that helped me learn each girl was watching their short videos from the AKB48 dating sim, which are in a YT playlist here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlXUbeJ2Quk&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLA11C9F5B9D84C103). AKB48 isn't the easiest thing to get into, but it's fun, so good luck!
