4. As long as it's handled well I enjoy a good AU. There's a difference between alternate world and alternative universe though and sadly a lot of people don't get this. Throwing a bunch of fandom characters into highschool and making them vampire lords all the while retaining none of the qualities that made them who they were ... that's not AU. My own personal preference of AU is changing minor details that were crucial to the original storyline and playing with that, which seems to be exactly what you're saying as well. In other words, IAWTS.
11. Seriously, get a real job. I think this applies to anything fandom related. Just because you cosplay you're not going to become the next internatioally known cosplay model, you're not going to become the next mangaka because you draw anime, you're not going to be a best seller because some fans like your fic. Sure have fun on the side and use that to make a little extra money or whatever -- I do that, but I also have a career.
