I love him, whether he's pretentious or not. Though I do feel awful if he reviews something I don't hate. XD

I'm feeling pretty silly because I don't see this at all. What do they say?

I don't agree with everything he says, but I appreciate that he has a real love for pop music and that he really does know his shit. He's well researched, if nothing else.

I don't always agree with his views, but usually, he just hits the nail on the head. I have a friend who listens to "white guys with acoustic guitar" songs, and I could never properly tell why exactly I hate them... until his rant.

It's kind of awkward; I watch his videos, laugh, and a couple of days later she tells me about that new song she likes... and it's often something he's reviewed, like Soul Sister or If I Die Young. But well, as much as I despise these songs, better them than Sexy and I Know it and consorts.

He articulates some things better than I can (I've been known to borrow his words in conversation to get my point across about a song I hate). That's what I listen for.

Yeah, this. For example, I don't think I could have properly articulated why I dislike Fifteen, apart from it being kind of boring.

He's not too pretentious to admit to liking a crappy song

How can one be pretentious and admit to liking Katy Perry? We saw him get pretentious for 'Sexy and I Know It.' He quit it because he couldn't do it.

I watch Todd for the music.

Did you see his cross-over with Film Brain, where he played FB's opening song, "Ready to Roll"? Hell, I think that's my fave version of that song.

I just hate how his arguments for most songs written/sung by women amount to: Only idiots or 14-year old girls would like it (and I'm going to imply that those go hand-in-hand because all teenage girls are exactly the same and stupid)

Maybe it's a part of a character and he acts in a completely opposite manner off-camera, I don't know, but the way he seems so much harsher to female singers just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If it isn't entertaining me, I'm not going to watch it, so I've given up on his videos awhile ago.

I always thought the pretension thing was just a way to get more material for jokes since a lot of the humor seems to come from taking cheesy pop songs way too seriously.

Ehhh... I don't think so TBH. He constantly saying it's his own opinion and he's explains his reasoning pretty well.

Unless opinions = pretentious then ....

It's not his opinions itself that make his seem pretentious. It's the fact that when he says them he's basically saying, "I deem myself to be an authority on what is good/bad music." But it's just a character and I enjoy it. He's like what Yahtzee is to gaming, but for pop music.

That's sort of the point though. Although, he probably is a bit IRL too, but isn't everyone?
