Not really related to your secret, but I sort of ship those two pretty hard. Also, Ryan would be cute as a werewolf.

IDK, I kind of think a character acknowledging that they had potentially done something very wrong would be a refreshing thing to see. But I guess not if's OOC?

I read the fic the secret is talking about, and it is refreshing. At first Esposito is angry that Ryan brushes off their night together as 'a mistake' and then Ryan tells him he wasn't in control... which prompts the angst. The "oh shit, I had a concussion, maybe I read Ryan wrong and he was drunk and then fuck, that means I raped my best friend"

But it's not a whole chapter. It's basically that, and then Ryan drops the other bomb (thefact that he's a werewolf) and that's about the angst part. not a whole chapter and not that much angsty.

The part the OP had a problem with was probably the chapter following that which does go back into the angst, and it is a little gratuitous.

At the time I was writing the fic his assumption that there was something else going on to back up Ryan's beliefs about what was happening to him seemed reasonable. I just couldn't picture Esposito accepting the "werewolf" thing at face value, yet he'd seen his friend's behavior turn into something abnormal and occasionally violent, so it couldn't be nothing either.

I've actually gone on at length elsewhere in my journal about how unhappy I was with some of the angst that crept into it, since it was originally was supposed to be humorous. It's like the brain that plans my fics and the brain that writes them are two different people sometimes...

I feel you on the work going in a different direction than you originally planned. I don't write, but I've had a lot of paintings/drawings that I've finished and thought "Huh....I guess that is what I was going for?"

Not a fandom I'm in/interested in, so probably not reading the fic and can't comment on characterization, just wanted to say I thought it was a good concept (and honestly if there were werewolves in the actual canon I might watch it) and don't let the nay-sayers get you down about angst. I like a lot of angsty things, both in fic and in canon, and a lot of those things get hate because some people can't handle them, but if you're feeling it and it feels right to write it, you shouldn't have to apologize for it just because it wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

I've just gotten kinda twitchy whenever someone knocks angst for being angst, and wanted to let a fellow writer know it's okay. (I've also had fics get away from me and not be the tone I intended, but that doesn't mean the places they went were necessarily wrong, and angst as a reaction to possible rape makes a heck of a lot more sense than humor, TBH.) Hope this isn't out of line.

I don't feel I have to apologize, merely acknowledging that certain elements of the fic the OP was talking about were far heavier than they really needed to be.

The humor would have been in response to a friend thinking he was a werewolf and the shocking proof of same. The POV character interpreting events as unintentional rape is what came out of left field. This happens to me a lot, because I plan dialogue and action ahead of time, but never know 100% what's going on in a character's head until I write it. :/

Not out of line. I appreciate it. At the same time, though, this secret is the sort of concrit I honestly wouldn't mind getting more of.

Oh, wow. Did not expect to see you here. *is embarrassed*. I do really like the story -- especially the bits when Esposito is still just trying to suss out why Ryan is acting so abnormal and even asking him if there's a drug thing going on. I guess my tolerance for self-angst is just considerably lower than my batshit crazy love tolerance for concerned-friendedness.

(Also, Black Edelweiss is rocking my socks, and I even read and liked the zombie series I swore I would forever avoid but caved in a fit of needing more well-done Kevin Ryan in my life right this instant.)

And I fully acknowledge I get carried away with the angsting sometimes (all the time). It kind of approaches self-indulgent and fetishistic at times, so, yeah...don't be embarrassed.
