If you hate him for being a hack, don't you also have to hate 98% of his contemporaries? Also, is he an enabler of misogyny because of Sucker Punch? I'm not all that familiar with his work, but I do know that Sucker Punch caused a bit of a ruckus. I don't know if he's committed any other cardinal social justice crimes.

He is quite handsome, though. I can totally see the allure.

Quite likely b/c of Sucker Punch. He tried and a lot people think he failed (YMMV--I've seen feminist haters--more of these; and feminist supporters of the movie (less of these)) or that it wasn't his aim (and it was--read his interviews and/or actually sit down and actually watch the damn movie and LISTEN to the dialogue, especially at the beginning of the dream sequences when the male is talking--turn the subtitles on if you have to--even I get he tried and I don't think it was a total failure. He tried to critique the male gaze and what it does it women. I give him kudos for the attempt and for the ensuing dialogue.

I totally expected to hate this movie when I watched it; I can't say I love it but I did like it at least. I thought it was interesting and a way to start a dialogue w/a guy about men and feminism.

I thought it seemed like Sucker Punch was designed as bait for T&A seekers but it kind of failed at that aim, either way.

YES. Granted, it took me several viewings to get this, because the first couple of times I was distracted by all the awesome fight scenes and music and asskicking, but the most recent time I watched it, everything fell into place when we first enter the brothel world and Sweet Pea says something to the effect of, "Stop this right now. This is supposed to be hot?" Finally I got that behind all the asskicking was some really awesome commentary. Made me like it even more.

If you can link to a specific interview where he talks about this, that would be great. :)
