...season 1 is one of my least favourites =/

I mean it had high points (Skin, Faith, my secret love The Benders) but in my opinion it wasn't until Devil's Trap that the show really started to hit its stride
season 2 is FANTASTIC though :D

Yeah, Sam had to get on board with The Facts Of Life Is We Need To Stop Big Bads From Eating Everyone before he really grew on me honestly. Once The writers hit their stride with the characters all kinds of awesome started happening IMO. ^_^

OH MY GOD YES. I love Sam now but fuck did he bug me in the first season. I am so easily annoyed by I Just Want To Be Normal~~type characters, especially when the alternative they have available to them is TO BE AWESOME INSTEAD. I was just like "YOU ARE IN THE WRONG SHOW FOR NORMAL, MAN, GOD"

but in season 2 he so completely grew on me. <3

Weird, I never took it that way. I always thought "normal" meant "control over my life." Especially, when it was clear Dean was just pretending to be happy about hunting.

Think they meant 'running to your fate bs running away from it and pretending it's not there so hopefully it'll go away' above? Grant it Dean has issues, but knowing his place is having his brother's back isn't generally one of them.

I got more of a 'yay family road trip in which I am more educated even though I stuck to the family business and didn't go to a fancy university' vs a 'are we done yet because I want to get the fuck out and go back to school and I'm pouting until that happens' vibe from the boys myself in the beginning... Which mainly struck me as odd because if I was Sam and someone killed my Jessica like that my priorities would probably be slightly different than his were played as. (But to each their own.) *shrug*

It's pretty clear Sam's not ever going back by Skin (I thought this was the case by the end of the pilot, but I recognize that is a matter of interpretation), for a variety of reasons. He blatantly says he never fit in and you know, Dean's on the run in a way in which they can never prove it's not him. It's less "are we done yet" and more "when are going to stop fucking around and find dad so we can find the fucking demon." I mean, he pretty much says those exact words in Wendigo, which is the second episode. Then he says them again in Scarecrow. Then he says it again in Shadow to his dad. Then he goes on a suicide mission to stop the demon in Salvation, in which Dean, to go along with his motivation, is more like "I would rather have you alive than demon dead." I mean I'm not going to say you're vibe is wrong, but when a character actually says things to counter that vibe, I think they should be taken into consideration. Dean clearly just doesn't want to be alone, and strongly preferably not alone with Sam, but he's avoiding fate far more than Sam is.

I mean, Dean's place is at his brother's back only if Sam wants him there and he wants to be there. None of the Winchesters are entitled to each other's presences because they're family. Dean isn't owed Sam's presence, nor do his needs override any of Sam's. And vice versa. I think the most interesting part of this show is that Sam and Dean learn and relearn where the boundary of their relationship lies and how to ~~not~~ compromise.

Such truth! I didn't know this fandom still had fans who see this so logically

Ah yes, the poor reluctant hero who never asked for any of this and goes swimming in da Nile for a while before pulling their head out of their butt and stepping up to the plate AND THEN being awesome.

Other examples off the top of my head being Marco from Animorphs, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has moments herself, Harry Potter himself to certain extents, pretty much at least one person per each action/end of the world movie actually containing a plot to go with the guns/explosions/etc, several X:Men verse characters, Simon and Wash from Firefly both have moment IMO even if they're not in the usual Big Damn Heroes line up...the list goes on indefinitely.

I'd say Han Solo, but do to the recent mixed reaction to him around here... -_^ -_^
