Evelyn Salt is revealed to actually be a Russian sleeper agent named Natasha Chenkov.
Lisbeth Salander is revealed in the Girl Who Played With Fire to be the daughter of former Russian spy Alexander Zalachenko.
Part of the plot of the Millennium trilogy is that Zalachenko was the result of experimentation into breeding a super-soldier. His family was experimented on as well and he flat out tells Lisbeth that she has an untold number of siblings running around in the world.
I couldn't help but hypothesize that Salt/Chenkov, who displays near super-human prowess, is a part of the Zalachenko family tree, albeit as a cousin instead of a sibling. Part of my head!canon is that Salt's father dropped the "Zala" from his surname while his brother Alexander kept it. Salt's father was killed for planning on defecting and she was indoctrinated since birth to be a sleeper agent.
Alexander remained loyal until the USSR collapsed and he fled Russia and ended up in Sweden where he fathered Salander who was raised solely by her Swedish mother.
I just see a lot of parallels between the characters and I just couldn't help but end up connecting the two in a tenuous but not necessarily impossible relationship.
Then I imagine what would happen if they met and suddenly thought that not only would Salt be a good guiding influence for Salander, but would be able to understand her on a level no one else could.
And then the femslash ensued, which is weird for me since I've never shipped two women before.
Suffice it to say, this is all ridiculously convoluted and near obsessive.
