[How I Met Your Mother]

What episode is that, please? I have the worst memory.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That's "Murtaugh", where they're trying to prove they're not "too old for this shit" but fail spectacularly :)

Thank you! <3

Not in the fandom but trust me, that is far from the stupidest reasoning in the history of fandom.

[identity profile] billybobfred0.livejournal.com 2012-03-02 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
This, basically.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly (or fortunately) OP has never seen the underbelly of the Harry Potter fandom...I'm actually completely unable to think of the stupidest reasoning for a ship I have ever read, because I have seen so much stupid there.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I always feel a strange need to protect that fandom...we weren't ALL batshite crazies with tin hats and multiple pyschoses. But there were some pretty stupid ideas there if I'm being fair. But to be fair EVERY fandom has it. There's a whole bunch of loyal Pokemon crazies who try to explain everything in the Anime as being the result of the main character (in a children's cartoon which SHOULD be enough of an explanation for anyone but whatever) being in a life threatening coma; just about anybody EVER in the Star Trek or Supernatural fandoms have some bizarre ideas too.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh don't get me wrong, I was in the Harry Potter fandom for years and for the most part it was one of the most delightful experiences in my entire life and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but to say its crazy side was crazy is a massive understatement, mainly because the whole fandom was so huge that the proportionately small fringe group of crazies was pretty massive, numerically speaking.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-03-02 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously one of my favorite moments in the entire show :D

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Same! And absolutely one of the reasons why I love this pairing.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I think Future!Ted made up Barney as the persona of the hidden desires and traits he wished he had. Kind of like his own Tyler Durden.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
LOL are you insane? Everyone on the show thinks Barney is a completely ridiculous jackass, even if some deluded misogynistic fratboys and NPH fangirls viewers think he's awesome in a serious way. Not that his friends don't still love him and support him, but not one single character on the show wants to be like him, except for his fanclub of pathetic losers from GNB.

More likely Future!Ted exaggerated the over-the-top-ness of Barney's stunts to entertain his kids. Or maybe Uncle Barney told them that stuff and then asked Future!Ted not to spoil his awesome stories when he told his yarn about how he met their mother.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I'm not insane. Barney does the exact opposite of what Ted would do. He's the other path. Since Ted is so hung up on fate I wouldn't be surprised if he had seriously thought about if instead of trying to find "the one" he had been busying trying to find "the one right now." What type of life that would lead to being a complete asshole and have so much self confidence. Because really, who the fuck would stay friends with someone who acted like Barney??? It could make sense that he's not even real and Future!Ted made him up, whether to live vicariously through him or to warn his kids how not to act (for his son) and who not to date (for his daughter). But I did say "sometimes" and it's fun to think outside the script. He probably is just some dude Ted knows. Imaginary would be more interesting imo.

Whenever someone asks me why I ship Barney/Robin, I always point them to these kinds of scenes :) They're the type of couple that would just have a blast being together and doing shit together all day long if they would just get over their stupid pride and hang-ups and ideas of what being in a relationship has to be like.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This this this!

I really hope that when they get back together, they won't try to fit into the traditional relationship mould anymore and will just be their awesome, crazy selves.
