Why would anon have to tell them? Dating does not mean committed. As long as anon is being safe about it, it's not really anybody's concern until somebody wants to make it exclusive.

Thank you! I did tell them just in case they had any funny ideas - some guys do, I know - but that was me being more open than I had to be. Don't know what the other anon's problem is.

He may have misinterpreted? Dating is a wide spectrum term, and a lot of people do use it to refer to exclusive relationships. Or have hangups that you can only date one person at a time, which I don't get any more then you do, I think. Though it's nice of you to be considerate in that way in case one of them did.

Even if I meant I was in a relationship with two people, we might be polyamorous! As long as no one is being deceived, I let people get on with it. (Actually, I let them get on with it anyway, but I judge if one or more parties is being lied to). For me, dating is the bit where you are getting to know the other person. But thank you!

A lot of people taking "dating" as "in a relationship," like boyfriend and girlfriend (or whatever your persuasion), and cheating is a big squick for people. Don't act all surprised that people misinterpreted what sounded like a confession of infidelity.

yes, but the majority of relationships are monogamous, so it isn't outlandish to assume that when someone says "dating multiple guys" they really mean "cheating".

Except the entire point of this secret was that OP wants to skip the early, vetting, non-committed part, the "dating" and skip straight to serious relationship. The context of anon's "dating a couple guys" was entirely clear. S/he's casually seeing them, not in a serious, committed LTR.
