I've never casually dated. I've had a couple serious relationships that were monogamous from the first date, and I'm now married (to someone I never even went on a "first date" with). Casual dating is by no means necessary for certain personality types, nor does not doing it mean a relationship is going to crash and burn.

While I'm glad t hings worked out for you, I have not seen this very much in my personal life. You stand as proof it exists, and that's great! But I suspect that you may be an exception.

To elaborate though, I think the reason so many of the wones I witnessed failed were a bit too much the desire of OP' fueling decisions. People who were in the throes of infatuation or who wanted to have a comitted relationship (usually just one person) without the "hassle" of dating but also without the work being put in to actually know a person. The result? A few months later people discovering it wasn't so ideal with this perosn.

Yeah, I think jumping into commitment can work if you already know each other really well, but if you don't, well, you might get lucky, but more likely you'll find out that you've committed to the wrong person.

That's a bit different. Suddenly changing the relationship with a friend can be risky, but it's a person you've put time into knowing. I'm more thinking the people who think they fell in love at first sight and forgot that infatuation is a thing that exists that doesn't sustain itself.
