It does mean that I can at the very least try not to be an asshole to the people around me, and stay aware that those people are not going to revolve around what I personally find interesting and/or relevant to me. Safe spaces =/= support group.

I try to treat people the way I would like to be treated, anon. How do you define 'respect'?

You treat people the way you would like to be treated, but if people don't treat you the same way, you're okay with that? I would not be.

If people don't treat me the way I would like to be treated when I'm being gracious to them and extending every possible respect, I either leave, or ignore them (usually possible on the internet). If I can't do either, well, I like to think it's a measure of integrity to not let someone else's behavior compromise my own. And besides, I'd rather know that I did nothing in the wrong in as many circumstances as I can manage than know I did something that I could have helped.

You never answered how you personally would define respect, anon? I was curious to hear your response.
