Ew, I like the character moments, but they don't make up for how much TTT was made ALL about Helm's Deep instead of Helm's Deep and Mordor. If I want character moments, I watch FOTR or ROTK. I like FOTR best of all.

Pelennor Fields is way better than Helm's Deep, too.

It probably depends on which characters you like best. Because I found pretty much all of FOTR to be incredibly boring.

Pelennor Fields is way better than Helm's Deep, too.

Each to his own, but I feel the reverse. Not that Pelennor doesn't have great moments (the charge of the Rohirrim, Eowyn slaying the Witch-King, Théoden's death, Gandalf and Pippin etc.) but I can't really get over the fact that there's this huuuge plain outside the walls of Minas Tirith where nothing lives and cultivates... I don't know, where are the people? where do the people of Minas Tirith get their food? This worries me! and so while there are great individual moments I don't really understand the overall battle. And the Dead are like this weird green soup of death. So it's a much more mixed experience.

I can't really find the same flaws for Helm's Deep, on the other hand, and I think we get a better sense of impending doom, of despair overcome at the very last minute by hope; I understand better what is happening and where, and the end, the ride, the horn blowing... it's an incredible scene.
