Were I the High Grand Poobah of Sherlock fandom, the "rite of passage" I would require of my minions would be to become sufficiently acquainted with the original stories to get the jokes. I would even allow familiarity with the BBC radio versions or the Granada series to count.

Fortunately, my ego is sufficiently supplied with amusement by snarking at various versions of the Baker Street boys over at shwatchalongs every couple of weeks, so there will be no homework assigned. You may all proceed to do whatever it was you were proceeding at.

I want to comment on your wit, good sir, but I'm far too distracted by the fact that there is an entire community devoted to Sherlock watchalongs :O That is ~~amazing~~. The Great Mouse Detective watchalong with ontd_deductions was so hilarious and wonderful, it feels like half an experience when I watch Holmes stuff alone anymore.
