And let me guess, the one you "picked" just so happens to match your genitalia?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
In fact, it's the opposite.

Oh, right, binarist trans people exist. I'd almost forgotten. Thanks for the sobering reminder.

If it was really a choice, why did you go through so much trouble? Do you live in some magical land where trans people aren't discriminated against? I know that sounds facetious, but I'm serious -- why in the world would you choose to be trans?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
You missed the part where I chose ONE and stuck with it, rather than going about being this sometimes and that other times.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
No, I caught that. Why did you choose the one that would bring you more hardship in life? Why did you choose to be trans and not cis?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Because I narrowed it down to that one identity I had, instead of stopping at "sometimes I'll be a woman and other times I'll be a man."

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Cool. So it was, in fact, "that one identity you had", and not actually a choice at all.

It's not like that for everyone.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently, because some people never bother to make the decision.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Newsflash, bro. NOT EVERYONE'S EXPERIENCE WITH GENDER IS THE SAME AS YOURS. Just because you came to realize you had only one gender does not mean everyone in the world has only one gender.

I mean, fuck, I really hate onions. Using that as a jumping-off point, I'm going to deduce that everyone in the world hates onions. Is that fair?

Wow, you're a fucking jerk. You know, bigender/genderfluid people experience similar levels of gender dysphoria to transmen/transwomen.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I have no doubt it's incredibly confusing, which is why not picking one and sticking with it just adds to personal conflict.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Picking one and sticking with it (assuming you're actually genderfluid and not... is there a word like "bigender-curious"?) involves lying to yourself. Which may cut down on confusion, but is still pretty shitty to deal with!

[identity profile] ascend.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
and could you just randomly switch, genuinely switch, on a whim? because the vast majority of people can't. it's a part of you like your skin colour is.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no, that's my whole point. You are either one thing or another, opposite thing. You're not both, so "gender fluid" makes no sense.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe you're not.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Why is everyone who disagrees with you a troll?

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] ascend.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
you are either a troll or an actual moron, i'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
You do know there are more than two options, right? I mean, so I hear.

Fucking hell, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU for finally admitting that transsexuality is something deviants choose and not some ~born this way~ bullshit we should be coddling.

I'm bookmarking this thread for future reference.

Sorry, but you have to read all the words, and not just the ones that make you feel happy.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. You specifically said you made a choice.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I made the choice to define myself as one or the other, rather than deciding to be both male and female, as is the topic of conversation. If you'd like information on how I came to the conclusion that I was transgender (beginning around, oh, age 5, and lasting some 15 years until I got over my own denial), I would be happy to provide those details for you.
