If you're serious about wanting a lot of body ink, I'd suggest looking into getting a sleeve or a single, very large image. I've got nothing against tattoos (unless they're something truly terrible, either in content or execution), but getting a bunch of random ones pasted all over your body looks so stupid to me. A friend of mine keeps getting (fairly large) tattoos, and none of them match, even though they all have some sort of personal meaning to him (which is why I don't tell him that I don't like how they look together). It's mildly irritating to look at, even though individually most of them look rather nice. Looking at the picture of Hardy, I feel the same way: the tattoos themselves might be nice individually, but together I think it looks stupid. With a sleeve (be it body or arm), you can get the ink coverage you're after with a cohesive set of images, and planning it might also help you come to the conclusion if you really want the tattoo in the first place. /my $0.02

As for the inspiration bit, who cares where you got it from? I was seriously thinking about getting a tattoo of a line or two from a poem after reading a poetry anthology, but my skin reacts so poorly to most everything and I have no idea where I think a tattoo would look attractive on me in any way, so I backed out. A lot of people do it for tributes (to people, things, events, etc.) and others do it for the heck of it. Who really cares why so long as it's something you think you'll be happy with for the rest of your life?*

*And yes, I know about laser removal, so technically tattoos aren't permanent anymore, but removal procedures are very expensive and not always successful, particularly if there is a lot of color present.

IA about your first paragraph completely. Even very heavily tattooed people I know often say they wish they'd waited to figure out a more cohesive plan.

On top of being really expensive and sometimes not that great, laser removal hurts SO much more than getting a tattoo in the first place and takes way longer. Gross.
