I love the whole tragic aspect of the reboot Kirk/Spock Prime relationship. I've actually seen some pretty good takes on it, but... yeah, I totally feel you in that it rings kind of false when it's written as totally happy and hunky dorey and ignores all the baggage they're both carrying around.
