Yo, fo shizzle mah homies

Canon BBC Sherlock is devastating. It's easy to cope with ACD canon and RDJ Sherlock because Watson has Mary but in Sherlock, he's so alone, and trying so hard not to break. Damn you Martin Freeman. ;_;

I know right? It's like Moffat, Gatiss and Thompson looked at the Final Problem and thought; "This is the most angsty thing in Holmes canon. LET'S MAKE IT TEN TIMES WORSE."

So we have Sherlock being declared a fake, Mycroft screwing him over epically, Lestrade and co turning on him, Watson being called away on "doctor business" as a distraction is now him believing Mrs Hudson is dying which causes his and Sherlock's last face-to-face convo to be a fight, the "Dear John" letter (literally) is now a phone-call with Sherlock having to do the whole Break His Heart To Save Him trope and, of course, John doesn't believe a word. And unlike other Watsons - he sees what he thinks is Sherlock's corpse. Also he has no idea of what went on between Holmes and Moriarty. For all he knows, Sherlock just had a break down and chose to kill himself. Having lost someone to suicide only last year I can especially empathise with that. And then we have the graveyard scene, "don't be dead", his limp apparently returning (people mention this though I've never been able to spot it) and Sherlock watching him cry from afar...

Seriously, boys. Well played. Well played.

To be fair, I didn't cry at any of that but I still appreciate the feelings. And the hiatus leaves enough extra angst to build up as we wonder how the hell they're going to bounce back from that in S3. Scars need to be healed, guys. Stat.

Gah, seriously, no fic can be more devastating than that. I didn't literally cry either, but my heart hurts whenever I think of Watson's grief. It's so real and tangible and simple plea resonates with people who have lost loved ones. I hope they address Watson's grief in the beginning of S3.

I'm applying band-aids over that scar with fluffy domestic fics, but S3 had better come asap!

I am actually worried that Moffat is going to do the same thing he did with the Melody Pond storyline in Doctor Who. That is have a brilliant set up with lots of heartbreak to work off...and then just shrug it all off. That being Amy and Rory's 'grief' over losing their daughter. So much gorgeous angst was built up in TRF, you need one hell of a reunion with ALL THE FEELINGS to follow that. I hope they get Thompson to write it again, it only seems fitting as he did the set-up.

Fluffy fics are my comfort at the moment but most of the reunion fics I've read are soooo angsty. Like yeah, we know John is going to throw a few punches and be pissed off but; its fanfiction, it's escapism, gimmie some happy-times people!

Watson's grief is too real and raw and relatable for most viewers so if they didn't address it properly I'll probably have to kick someone. That's the reason I left Glee, other than the writings suck. Thompson had better write the first ep of S3.

Oh, I don't read reunion fics AT ALL haha, too painful. Most of the fic I'm reading gloss over or didn't even include the fall event. It's easier that way. If I want to be devastated I'll just watch the news. Gimme a good casefic any day.

Yep. ;_; The whole "Take my hand." line goes from adorable to sad with that shot. And when John tries to reach for the body's hand and has to be dragged away.

Yes, this, exactly. I'm another who didn't cry watching it, but oh, my heart. That episode was so rough and sad and just...hurty.

I don't know... RDJ Sherlock is quite devastating for me because for me, that last moment before Sherlock falls is when Watson realizes Sherlock loves him. My head canon, I know, but it broke me.

MAybe the BBC version doesn't affect me that much thanks to the wonderful fix it fics I've been reading?

See I had the RDJ version spoiled for me before hand so it didn't affect me much but Watson walking in to see Holmes jump was a bit sad. But then I felt cheated at the end because, even though I knew Holmes would be alive, we didn't get to see Watson's reaction to seeing him again (and I doubt it will be how they start the next movie). Which is one of the things that's keeping me holding out for the rest of the BBCverse.

Now the Granada version? That actually made me well-up a bit in how poignant it was executed. Both Watson reading the letter in TFP and in TEH when we see Holmes have to stop himself from calling out to him. Oh Jeremy Brett. <3

Yeah I have major issues with the fact that we don't get to see Watson's reaction to Holmes being alive. That's a terrible way to leave us hanging! They need to add a damn stinger or something.

While I'd love to see Watson's reaction to Holmes being alive -in front of him and not just that 'eureka' moment when he sees the oxygen supply- What I would've loved is if the new adaptations were bold enough NOT to show us that Sherlock is still alive at the end. Make us suffer and wait (Yep, I love good angst) even when the ones who have read the ACD canon knows that it's not the end.

I haven't seen the Granada version, but it's in my list of things to watch as soon as my work is less crazy

Yeah I do have to agree. I mean both versions did manage to pull off quite an epic "WTF moment" with their death scenes as to how the hell either of them would have survived that. Like in the BBC!verse we see Sherlock's smashed head and John feeling his pulse etc. In the Ritchie!verse the waterfall is now this huuuuuuuge mountainous chasm with snow and rocks....to be honest, I'm still not sure how Holmes survived that (breathing in the water was surely the least of his worries). So both could have left us hanging and we'd be as dumbfounded as the respective Watsons to not know what happened.

And then, a year later, BAHM - release a trailer for the second sequal/series 3. The fans would've gone insane.

Hell it wouldn't have been like we had to wait ten years for his return like fans of the ACD stories had to.

The thing with the waterfall I'd guess is completely dumb luck. (and for some reason, I'm sorta convinced that's ACD canon? haven't read the Final Problem in a long time)... you can survive such falls if you're lucky... then, of course, breathing.

But yes, THAT would've been amazing. Keep us guessing. Hell, if everything had been kept secret, even those who knew canon could've been fooled.

The falls in the ACD canon look to be a lot different from how they're presented in Guy Ritchie verse. And also, in canon, Holmes never falls in with Moriarty. He just throws him over the edge and then makes it look as if he fell as well and hides behind a rock while Watson calls for him. He actually says on his return "there's never a question of how I survived the falls. Because I was never in it." or something.

It would've been awesome! Because now it's more an annoying wait for a series that we know it's coming but we have no idea when. My guess is, going by how busy the boys schedules are and Sue Vertue's comments, mid to late 2013 at the earliest. :-/ I would so rather NOT be waiting, thinking it's all over and then be gleefully surprised. Same for the Ritchie films.

Granada is amazing, but it's best to watch it in order if you want the full impact.

I plan to watch it in order. When I said it was next on my list I meant the whole series.
