I think the issue is less that the fic itself was bad/good but that it's a 'must-read' and if you don't like it them 'omg you've never shed a tear in your life!'

Which prompts, as I'm sure you can imagine, discontent.

Maybe you're right, though I simply didn't meet with this kind of reaction. Yeah, I saw people reccing it as a "must-read", but then people rec this way all kinds of fics, half of which isn't actually that good, it's normal. When I told a few people it didn't do anything for me they didn't bash me or anything. I guess I was lucky and maybe that's why I don't get it.

Also, incidentally, I met with distaste from this fandom when I said I don't really fancy reading fanfiction to it. Apparently I'm shallow, don't care about the characters, take everything without criticism, and other fun things like that.
