Oh, Ivy's definitely my favorite too, OP. Even if they've been trying to force her into the bitchy diva role lately, going in she was way more sympathetic and seemed way more deserving of the role than Karen.

I love Ivy. My friends are split pretty evenly down the middle on whether they like Ivy or Karen but I think that Ivy is a better character. In my opinion, she definitely deserves the role.

She deserved it so much more and was much better! I hate how it seems like they're trying to make her "the bitch" now that she's got it. (Or, at least, that's what last week's episode seemed like to me. I haven't seen the latest one yet.)

I get tired of this trope where the brunette is the natural ingenue, and the blonde with makeup is fake. (Especially since it tends to be pure brunette and blonde who has sex. Just. It's pretty gross.)

I may be crazy, but I'm kind of optimistic because they seem to be dimensualizing her character--I'm hoping it will either be role split or Ivy is legitimately the lead, and Karen's storyline is independently about someone who is talented but needs to pay their dues in the chorus, etc., before they can get those roles, and then the TV show is about how the two of them cope at different stages in their careers. I like Ivy and Karen both, and I'd like to see them both doing their things.

Yup. The outcome's clear to the point that it's confusing why they act like there's an ending that doesn't favor Doe Eyes.

It's not the only reason I still watch this show (what's with the hate, people?), but I want Ivy to succeed so badly. Even though she's a bitch to Karen sometimes, I find it understandable and sympathetic that she's threatened by the fact that some newbie could steal her role when she worked her ass off for 10 years to finally land the lead.

Her rendition of Crazy Dreams legit made me tear up.

"Still"? Dude, it's been like five eps. But I'm very disappointed at the way they're making her the ~villain and I hope she becomes friends with Karen down the road, because the rivalry is just annoying.

I mostly watch for the music, I'm not too fussy about who's singing it as they keep turning out great music.

What I don't like is how they completely changed her character to shove this storyline in. She went from happy and normal to bitchy and insane in-between episodes. Nobody can be that jealous, not even in show business.

Someone can lose their part without being the "bad guy/girl". Say, she ends up being good buddies with Karen and everyone else, but falls of the stage and breaks her leg during a rehersal. Or she has some sort of personal emergency and has to be out of town for a while. Anything, writers, work your brains a bit.

This. It was obvious that they were both good enough for the role, and plays have understudies that have to be able to carry the role...so why shove Karen in the chorus instead of giving her the understudy? They could still make it so she shines at the part enough to take it from Ivy/split it with Ivy if they really wanted too that way, and it would make more sense.

That and double casting. I've been seeing more and more shows lately (especially big ones) that double cast parts so that one actor doesn't tire out. Similar to an understudy, except both actors play the part equally and switch off each night.
