Anon, I'm not sure at all about heaven, but I have been visited by the ghosts of two of my dogs, semi-regularly, in fact. They've been dead for over twenty years and ten years, respectively. They show up in houses they never lived in, on street corners, following me around from place to place.

Whether that means there's an afterlife or not, well, I can't answer the question. I just know I see dog ghosts, not just my pair, but other dog ghosts as well. And while I have had a lot of other dogs since both of them, and hope to have many more, the fact that I do see them makes me happier than I can ever say.

I'm a very rational person and I don't believe in ghosts. Which makes the fact that I think I've seen my dog's ghost extremely weird to me. I guess I could chuck it up to something like wishful thinking, but maybe not? idk.

Dealing with all of this is harder than I thought it'd be :(

I feel the same way. I don't believe in ghosts or anything of the sort, but once our dead cat's "ghost" jumped at the foot of my bed. I sat there, felt incredibly happy and a bit sad, wondered why I hadn't seen him for some time, and only then realised that he'd died a few years ago. (I also have these strange, incredibly serene and beautiful dreams whenever someone I know dies. Perhaps it's just my subconscious's way of dealing with death, but it's odd and I never have those dreams otherwise.)

I have the same problem. I don't believe in heaven but I wish I did just so that I could believe my dog is happy somewhere.

Don't feel bad about an 80s cartoon helping you with this. The only thing that sort of helps me is The Little Prince.

And I get chocked up too, all the time. And it's been longer.

I relate :( My family dog is getting old and she'll die in a few years at most. I hate that knowledge.

OT, but this movie always made me feel better, even though I saw it when I was seven years old. The darkness is what actually caused it to make me feel better -- I had never seen a movie that dark in my life before, and so before, I had this binary between good fluffy stuff that happens in movies and bad scary stuff that happens in real life. This movie totally helped me get over it -- that maybe when bad stuff happens it doesn't make everything around it bad. And yeah, it helped me not be as scared of dying and stuff. More because of the example Charlie set at the climax of the movie than the heaven sequences, though.

OP, I don't think there is any right or wrong reaction to grief, as long as you're not harming yourself or others. If you get comfort from this movie, then more power to you.

At any rate, I love this movie, although I haven't seen it in years. Good choice!
