I must be in the same parts because people I know don't seem to care about the ships much at all either, and are worried the movies will make way too much of that.

I have run into people who like Peeta (more than I do; I don't care for him all that much) and like fic with him and Katniss, but not in a "Ooh, Peeta is dreamy! Peeta x Katniss 4evah!" kind of way. I'm sure they're out there, but... I seem to stay away from them pretty successfully.

(Note: I don't think shipping is evil and bad if people get a kick out of it. But I haven't met anyone who thinks that's the point of the Hunger Games yet.)

IA, IA, I know love triangles and big romances are a huge huge selling point for films, but THG needs to remain entirely focused on what's important - Katniss' story, and the political struggle and message going on.

I have high hopes that will be the case. From interviews i've read so far it doesn't seem like they're hyping up the love triangle at all, so hoppeeefulllyyy.

I totally admit to being allll about epic romance in other fandoms where the message isn't really anything to do with shipping, like in Sanctuary.

Of course the only Epic Romance of THG is probably Finnick/Annie, and even then epic isn't particularly the right word for it. More like tragic.

I think they are missing the point too to be honest but like you're saying it's essentially not my business how they enjoy themselves. But still, I haven't even run into it that much.

And I ship in all kinds of fandoms where it's not the point too, now that I think of it.

Oh Finnick/Annie. That's just heartbreaking. I think if they do it right it will kill me in the films.

I recently re-read the books and THAT MOMENT when Finnick looks up at Katniss in the sewer and she shoots... I cried for about 15 minutes. My eyes are stinging right now even typing it.

That is some Epic Business right there.

I'm actually really chilled about THG coming out soon, but you know what i'm worried about? What they do with Catching Fire. I have so so much love for all those 'secondary' characters who are not secondary at all, that if Finnick or Johanna are in any way sidelined, i'll probably lose my shit in some apocalyptic fashion.

So whereas some people are worried they'll make the first movie too triangley, i'm more worried that the epicness of the previous victors will be totally ignored somehow.

I can't disagree with that at all. Movies love to get rid of secondary characters, but Finnick and Johanna are so important.

And who knows what they'll do with the Quarter Quell, and all the great past victors in that one who don't show up long but really got to me, like Wiress.

I try to keep in mind that movies are limited and I can only expect so much but... yeah, I really hear you about this.

Also, I like Peeta and Katniss/Peeta, but I don't care about the ~triangle~, and I don't have any desire to write fic about or discuss the main three yet. And I agree with you guys that the people I've met in fandom so far don't seem shipping-obsessed, either. Not sure where this attitude is coming from, maybe off LJ?

If people think it's all about a love triangle, I don't get it, but I also don't really care, because it's not like it changes the books. And I get shipping in fandoms that are not about shipping in general, so I'm not going to judge people for having their fun in their own way.

I know I came off as saying shipping is bad, and actually I feel pretty bad about that. I meant that I don't think the books are all about a love triangle, and that that's not the main point of the books. But if that's what someone got out of it, it's not really a big deal, because they're just books.
