The whole fuss over turning thirty came about a long time ago when the life expectancy wasn't what it is today, so 30 was pretty much the mid-point of your life. Hence the term "midlife crisis". Now that people live longer and usually die in their 80s, turning thirty isn't really that big of a deal anymore.

I'm going to be 29 in a few months and honestly I'm not too worried about turning 30. I kind of really freaked out when I turned 28, because I realized my 20s were almost over and that meant I wasn't going to technically be a "young person" for much longer, and that I couldn't really spend my life perpetually partying and avoiding responsibility (also I realized that I was starting to show physical signs of age) but I got over it.

I had my freakout at 25. After that, I barely noticed when I turned 30.

I didn't notice much at all. I mean, I did have a sort of 'wtf, really?' reaction for the first couple weeks but I didn't feel any different about myself so I don't think it was a big enough deal to me for it to count as a freakout.

Damn, those physical signs of aging. ;p I like the headspace I'm in at 30, I feel like I'm on a more even keel, but the day I realized I can't stay up all night and not pay for it the next day, that not taking my vitamins actually was making a difference in how I felt, that I just don't have quite the energy I did a decade ago, I really felt 'old' for a stretch. These things do sneak up on a body.

I'm turning 29 this year, and while I don't think I've had a solid freakout, I'm definitely compartmentalizing some things about life and priorities and what not, which is definitely not helped by my now 8 months of unemployment. The only thing I'm freaking out about is that I honestly don't know what I truly want to do with my life. I taught English in Japan for 3 years, but I don't really think that teaching is what I want to do in the long run...

...and yeah, wrong place to rattle about this. I'm so used to pretending that everything is going well that I can't get myself to do anything. ;_;

As for physical aging, I've been going grey for 10 years. I don't dye my hair, as I rather enjoy it. xD
